Natasha’s Story:
I was 28 years old at the time of my surgery. As a single mother of one and a registered nurse, my health became an issue for me. I decided to make a change in my life when I became ill, displaying symptoms of Hypertension and Diabetes and shortness of breath, even when just doing something as simple as having a conversation. I had also been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I wanted to improve my quality of life and I also wanted to enjoy and actively participate in my child’s life.
I have a long history of yo-yo dieting with no weight loss greater than 30 pounds. With the gastric bypass surgery, I had to learn a whole new way of eating. Prior to the surgery, food played a major part in my life. When I was happy, sad or even mad, I would turn to food. After working through the program and having the surgery, I have learned how to deal with my emotions in a more constructive way.
Now, I have lost more than 100 pounds, and as a result, my quality of life has improved. I can do so many things that I couldn’t do before. I can cross my legs when I sit down, and can hold a conversation or climb stairs without running out of breath. My overall experience with the gastric bypass surgery has been wonderful. Now, I can look into the future and think big. In five years, I can see myself having completed and earned a triple Master’s degree in nursing and business. The sky is the limit!
